About Reis Magos Fort

Standing majestically on the northern bank of the Mandovi River, Reis Magos Fort is one of Goa's most significant historical landmarks, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's rich Portuguese colonial heritage.

Originally built in 1551 by Dom Afonso de Noronha, this laterite stone fortress served as a crucial defense point guarding the entrance to the Mandovi River. After centuries of neglect, the fort has been beautifully restored and now functions as a vibrant cultural center, hosting exhibitions, events, and educational programs.

Foundation

Built by Dom Afonso de Noronha as a strategic fortress to guard the Mandovi River entrance and protect against enemy invasions.

From Panaji

Take NH66 towards Mapusa, turn right at Verem junction. The fort is approximately 8 km from Panaji city center (15-20 minutes drive).

From Mapusa

Head south on NH66 towards Panaji, turn left at Verem junction. Distance: 12 km (20-25 minutes drive).

By Public Transport

Take a bus from Panaji or Mapusa to Verem. The fort is a short walk from the Verem bus stop.

By Air

Goa International Airport (Dabolim) is 45 km away. Take a taxi or rent a car for the 1-hour journey.
